Waking Up At Night? There's A History Behind It

Did you know that back before the turn of the century most people slept twice during the night?  We had what researchers call “two sleeps.”  This was due in large part to the lack of electricity so when the sun went down there was no light except by candles.  People would go to bed and then get up around 3am and pray, read, or have sex.  Then they would go back to sleep and get up at dawn.

So the next time you get up in the middle of the night thinking that you are the only one who can’t sleep, think again. Your ancestors were doing the same thing and chances are many folks still are.
