A couple has raised $1 million on IndieGoGo to create solar
panels to cover our nation’s roads. The endeavor
would enable the U.S. to generate 3 times as much energy as it needs. It would also do something amazing… get rid
of those unsightly power lines that obscure views all across the country.
The panels could also light up to show directions and road
signs and they could also warn drivers when animals like deer are on the
road.
The prototype can hold a 250,000 pound truck and they have one
laid out as a parking lot. Of course
there are naysayers who claim that the
cost is too prohibitive to manufacture and install, but if we consider how much
it costs to maintain our roads now and how they don’t give anything revenue
back, the roads could pay for themselves.
I could see parking lots as the first step because businesses
have more autonomy but if there is enough traction, states and eventually the
federal government may back the project to change all the roads over.
